Welcome

Hi, I’m Bek — forager, wild food and medicine maker, teacher, mother, hands-on learner, believer in play & joy as essential life elements, and concerned and caring citizen of the magical, living breathing rock we all call home.

I try to spend as much time in the woods/mountains/streams/meadows/tree branches as I can. I know it’s where my body and brain and soul are most nourished and connected to the world, but I still struggle to break away from the tricky addiction to pretend-connection that social media (and all our constant streaming options) provides. But I expect in the coming years it will become increasingly important for us to break free of that and deepen our connection more than ever to the real world around us – not just the “pristine nature” parts that we often feel so separate from, but the real human community around us that we have also grown distant from lately.

This space is for those who feel similarly about the importance of rebuilding connection- to the natural world, to our community, and to ourselves.

Here, I will share some of the knowledge I have gained over the past 20 years teaching outdoor education (thanks to many long lineages of people living close to the land, from here on this stolen land where we live now, and from around the world). I’ll include information about wild edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms, recipes, stories, and crafts or other activities for engaging with the natural environment through the seasons. I’ll offer ideas for slowing down and noticing, for really feeling the seasons as they shift through the year, some of the best ways I have found for being grounded in this life and helping it feel a little less like it is rolling by so quickly. And I hope to create a space for sharing news of our changing world at large, and steps we can take to not only fight against the increasing harm to our Earth and fellow inhabitants (both human and otherwise), but just as importantly for dreaming and creating the better world we hope to see, for all.
